D300 image quirk!!

I have had this happen to me twice now with my new Nikon D300.
Can anyone explain why the image seems to have "slipped"? If you look at the image on the bottom you can see that the right side of the image seems to have slipped up and the left side is darker. This is one image straight from the camera.

Have you tried a different memory card? The only other thing that I can think of is that it might be a buffer issue. Can you find a trend, like the second or third shot in a string, or the first shot after a long string?
Dying battery?

Can't seem to find any pattern. Have not tried a new card yet. I appear to be having the problem with the 10.5 lens. When I shoot stills I have had no problem. Going to reshoot the 2 tours again tomorrow and see if it happens again. Thanks for the ideas. The battery should be fine, I charge before each shoot.

How do you shoot pano's?   1 shoot in RAW, or do you bracket? If you bracket, try pulling the images up in a viewer that lets you see all of them at once in order. You might be able to spot something that way. I had a memory card that had a bad sector, it was a pain to track down until I numbered my cards.

Do you format your card often or just remove the images to your hard drive? Compact Flash/Memory Cards really need reformatting often.

Another thought...

Have you inspected the connections of the lens to the body? Maybe lint, dust, dirt or damaged terminals.

Can you post a download link to a couple of the damaged images (full size)?

I went back and reshot one of the tours today. Smooth had told me to set my lens on manual focus and set it to infinity and then tape it so it want move. I had not done that. So today I did it and checked each set of 5 brackets as I shot them and didn't have any problems. They all came out OK today. I don't see how that could result in the problem I was having. Seems like if the focus moved, and it did, it would just be out of focus. Any thoughts?
Smooth as for the Formating, I do that on a regular basis.
Vince, for now I am shooting brackets of 5 until I get the hang of the D300. I have shot RAW before but was not very sucessfull in getting rid of the blown out window. I hate blown out window!!! I will have to pratice more with the RAW.

That's an electronic problem, not a mechanical one. I would guess a bad sector on your memory card, or (and I hope not) an issue with your cameras buffer. Up to the light hitting the chip, a digital camera is identical to a film camera, and evan though a sticking shutter could cause an issue with uneven exposure (like if you shot with a flash with to high shutter speed) that would not explain the offset. You might try removing, and reseting your card, checking that it is clean when you have it out. Have you contacted Nikon support about this?

I have not contacted them about it yet. As stated above I reshot one of the tours and had no problems. I have to reshoot the other one tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens. I may just purchase a new card.

Update: I shot 2 more tours today and checked all the images as I was shooting and they all look OK.
The only thing I can figure is the issue with the tape to hold the focus in place. I will report back if it happens again.
